Mature logic encompasses all but the three most advanced nodes in foundry-logic and spans silicon logic technologies ranging from >100nm CMOS (Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor) nodes to early FinFET nodes.
The automotive and IoT end-markets are driving growth in the mature logic segment. Electronic content in cars has increased significantly in recent years, driven by the EV transition as well as the introduction of increasingly sophisticated electronic control units (ECU) and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). Mature logic plays a key role here as it provides cost-effective and well-proven solutions for many automotive applications.
IoT is another growth driver with IoT-enabled devices expected to increase to >20B units by 2030. IoT technology powers smart solutions such as smart homes, smart grids, and Industry 4.0. It relies on embedding digital electronics in everyday objects—also known as ubiquitous or pervasive computing—allowing them to collect data from sensors, analyze and process the data onboard, and connect to the Internet or local network, typically via wireless connectivity (WiFi or 5G). An embedded system fabricated in a mature logic node can provide these functionalities with a significant advantage in cost over an advanced logic solution.
Applied Materials offers a broad and established product portfolio for mature logic with our products in etch, dielectric and epitaxial deposition, treatment, anneals, planarization and metals deposition. Our materials engineering expertise and R&D capabilities provide valuable and sustainable solutions to our customers looking for application-specific technology optimization.
