Over the last two decades, Frank Lee has overseen investing in and helping build over 30 technology companies in semiconductors, communications, enterprise infrastructure software and mobile industries. Prior to joining Applied Ventures, he was responsible for the US investments of UMC Capital ($800M AUM), the venture capital arm of UMC (a leading global semiconductor foundry). Frank has invested in many early stage startups from seed to series B. He enjoys working with entrepreneurs in building strong go to market teams. At UMC Capital, he represented UMC Capital in its US portfolio companies as board member or observer. His recent notable exits include MobileIron (Nasdaq: MOBL), MetaCloud/Cisco, Force10/DELL and Sandforce/LSI.
Frank started his venture investing career at Vertex Management in Singapore. He relocated to Vertex’s SV office in 1997 and was focused on investing in communications, and semiconductors industries.
Frank has an MBA from Kellogg Graduate School of Management at the Northwestern University and BS in Mechanical Engineering from San Jose State University. Frank is a passionate outdoorsman. He enjoys biking, fishing, jogging and wine tasting.
