Applied strives to model purpose-driven behaviors and advance more inclusive, equitable and sustainable practices that help elevate our entire industry.
We align what matters to our employees and the communities where we live and work with who we are and what we stand for as a company. We turn our values into local action through equity-centered community engagement efforts.
Applied and the Applied Materials Foundation deploy charitable and human resources around the world supporting organizations that offer services without discriminating against any group or individual.
Employee engagement amplifies our positive community impact, often via company-initiated events that connect our people with local nonprofits and volunteer opportunities. Employees volunteer for a variety of causes of interest and can also maximize their personal charity support through our Matching Gift and Volunteer Time Grant programs.
We advocate for U.S. and global policies and issues that align with our business interests and values and that matter to our employees and customers.
Applied Materials supports STEM education for children in Israel's economic and geographic periphery. Through a long-standing partnership with 'Ofanim', as one example, we fund and support educational programs that bring STEM learning to students living in remote and underserved communities. As part of our partnership with 'Tovanot B’Hinuch', Applied volunteers teach elementary school students math, robotics and basic coding. We also host on-site visits where students explore technology and gain exposure to the semiconductor industry, building confidence in their ability to learn higher-level science and math. By opening our doors and sharing knowledge, we hope to inspire young students and broaden their knowledge.
We’re dedicated to environmental stewardship and community engagement through multiple green activities. In partnership with the 'Good Energy Initiative', with the help of local school children, we plant hundreds of trees annually. We support Yaara Food Forest's innovative social nursery, participate in beach cleanup and support a local organic community garden, where urban children learn gardening and sustainability practices.
Applied Materials is committed to addressing gender disparities in STEM fields by supporting programs that boost girls' confidence and technical skills. Through partnerships with organizations like’ Shavot’ and ‘Cracking the Glass Ceiling’, we work with local schools to inspire young female students. Our collaboration with QueenB brings coding programs directly to high school students, including weekly on-site activities at the Applied campus. By providing mentorship, visibility, and practical skills, we aim to counteract early confidence drops and encourage young women to pursue technological careers with self-assurance.
We address food insecurity through active employee volunteering and financial support. Our employees collaborate with Latet and the ‘social Baby Food Bank’ to pack food boxes for economically disadvantaged families, ensuring basic and essential nutrition. Through another initiative with ‘Roni's Neighbors’, our volunteer groups prepare and deliver Shabbat meals to elderly community members who lack family support. These projects go beyond simply providing food—they create meaningful human connections, offering both nourishment and companionship to those most vulnerable in our community.
With approximately 148,000 Holocaust survivors remaining in Israel, and a devastating one-third living below the poverty line, Applied Materials supports critical initiatives to honor and help these survivors. We partner with the ‘Foundation for the Welfare of Holocaust Victims’, providing home renovations and personal support visits. Through our support of ‘Zikaron BaSalon’, an organization dedicated to Holocaust remembrance, we help enable programs where trained volunteers meet with survivors to document and preserve personal stories, ensuring these important narratives are shared and remembered.
In response to the challenges faced by communities in southern Israel since October 7th, Applied Materials forged partnerships with organizations providing critical support and rehabilitation. Amongst these is ‘Hamaniot’ who are assisting orphans from the Southern region,” HaGal Sheli” who provide therapeutic surfing programs for impacted youth, ‘Rimon Farms’ who are creating long term dedicated spaces for therapy, healing and resilience building, ‘Photo Israel’ who run phototherapy workshops for senior citizens, ‘Adama Tova’ dedicated programs for members of the “Nova community” aimed at helping them heal and restart their lives.
We recently opened a special community café on our Rehovot campus which is part of a new social enterprise chain called ‘Cafe Otef’. The café is managed by residents of Sderot and raw products are sourced from the south and included in the menu. In addition, the café serves as a platform for small local businesses that were negatively impacted to sell their goods. All profits from the café will be directed to a dedicated community project in Sderot.
