Xianmin Tang is Appointed Vice President and head of MDP Product and Application KPUs. He is responsible for innovation and commercialization of technologies for the metal deposition market.

He first started at Applied in 2000 as a new college graduate and R&D engineer and expanded his work to productivity, process, and customer engagement. He has made significant contributions to innovate and commercialize metal deposition products—generating more than ten billion dollars in revenue over the last 10 years. His innovative mindset and leadership helped Applied develop multiple new Integrated Materials Solutions for customers. He is highly regarded by customers and young engineers alike as a thought leader for his deep understanding of PVD and interface engineering technology. 

In 2022 he was named an Applied Materials Fellow for outstanding technical contributions that have been vital to the company’s success. He holds a Ph.D. in Physics from the College of William and Mary. He has more than 70 U.S. patents issued and has authored over 15 publications.
